A successful annual Tesco food drive 2024!

At the end of November/beginning of December we had the Tesco food drive in association with Trussell nationally. At the Askham Bar Tesco Extra, we spent three days in store preparing bags for customers to purchase and donate, collecting donations, providing customers with info on the foodbank including our “most needed” shopping lists, and generally having a good time with the Tesco team – special thanks to Jo, the community coordinator – and our volunteers. This year on the Thursday we were supported by Jemma from Kingswood Group and a team from Aviva. On the Friday we had support from a team from NFU Mutual and on Saturday some of our regular volunteers staffed the food drive.

Day 1 our manager Adam Raffell was supported by a team from Aviva. Below is a picture of the Aviva team at Tesco. The team included Stephanie Hudson (team lead – organiser), John Forsyth, Chris Simpson, Andy Elsey, Diana Brownlee, David Montgomery, Karen Wilkinson, Jo Gray, Andy Elsey, Jen Rampling, Pat Kukowska.

Day 1 our manager Adam Raffell was also supported by Jemma Cuthbert of Kingswood Group (pictured below). Jemma also did two days in our warehouse the following week, sorting and storing the donations – thanks so much Jemma!

The total collected on the first day was 359.6 kg.

Day 2 we were supported by a team from NFU Mutual and Tesco. The total collected on the second day was 563.8 kg. The volunteer team included our warehouse coordinator Maxine Taylor who is pictured below with Tony (Tesco staff), and from NFU Mutual, Jodi Whitehead, Will Littley, Darrell Gardner, Kevin Braithwaite, and Ellie Allen.

The third day collection came to 454.85 kg.

Overall the drive was very successful. We collected at Askham Bar for three days and benefited from a day’s collection at Clifton Moor (824.5kg), in conjunction with Wetherby Foodbank. The total donations collected has now been sorted and weighed in and comes to 2202.75kg!
